About me
I have studied music and trombone playing at the Music Conservatory in Oslo (Arild Jensen) and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London (Denis Wick, Peter Gane, Eric Crees). I have also had several shorter periods of studying in Los Angeles (Ralph Sauer) and Cardiff (bass trumpet studies with Brian Raby).
My main occupation is playing principal trombone in the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. I have held this position since 1979 and participated in numerous recordings and international tours with the orchestra during Mariss Jansons’ time as chief conductor (1979-2003).
In addition to the orchestra work, I am associate professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo and I frequently do seminars and workshops in Norway and abroad.
I am also principal trombone in the Oslo Sinfonietta – an ensemble dedicated to performing and recording contemporary music.
I have played solos with orchestra, band, organ and piano over the years. (Check out my repertoire list)
On a private note:
At home I have two Abyssinian cats – Lukas (2004) and Denis (2007). Very strong personalities and quite entertaining. They both share my great interest in food!
My hobby is photography and most of the time I use a Nikon D90 with a 18-105mm lens. I also use Photoshop (CS5) - so boredom is never a problem....
Trombone and organ
I am especially interested in this combination because of the near unlimited possibilities of variation in colours and sounds AND dynamics that these two instruments have to offer! The fact that organs usually are found in churches and other large spaces only enhances the possibilities.

Publications
In co-operation with my colleague Jan Fredrik Christiansen (former principal trumpet OPO) I have edited lots of duets for trumpet and trombone. Our first publication was J. S. Bach’s Two part Inventions (including demo cd) and
Boismortier – Nine Sonatas
containing mostly light hearted baroque music (also with demo cd) Both publications on Norsk Musikforlag.

We have already started working on the next book which is more Bach. This time the more complicated but very entertaining Preludes and Fughettas from Das Wohltemperierte Klavier and some pieces from the French and English Suites.
